Germany's casualties (around 250,00) far outweighed France or Great Britain's casualties (combined 80,00). Significance The significance of this battle is what it prevented the Germans from doing. Because the French stopped there advances the Germans had no choice but to turn around. This was also the first war to use Trench Warfare. |
